PHASE 1: Birth & Childhood (The Divine Child)
1. Birth in Marudhur - 1823
Ramalingam is born in Marudhur near Chidambaram to a humble Tamil family. A divine light glows around the newborn.
2. Early Loss
His father passes away when he is very young. His mother brings up five children with great difficulty in a small home.
3. Journey to Chennai
For a better life, the family moves to Chennai (Madras) in a bullock cart.
4. The Temple Boy
Young Ramalingam avoids formal school. He is drawn to the temple gopuram, sitting and watching with divine curiosity.
5. Brother's Teaching
His elder brother Sabapathy tries to teach him Tamil with palm leaf manuscripts at home, but Ramalingam looks towards the divine light.
6. Secret Meditation
He locks himself in a small room, places a mirror and a small oil lamp, and meditates for hours seeing the inner light.
7. Vision of Lord Murugan
Pleased with his devotion, Lord Murugan appears as a bright grace-light to him. This is his first divine vision.
8. The Child Poet - Tiruvottiyur
At age 9, at Kandaswamy Temple, Tiruvottiyur, he sings spontaneous devotional verses. Priests and crowds are amazed.
9. Awakening of Compassion
On the streets of Chennai, he sees starving poor and beggars. His heart melts and he gives his own food away. This compassion becomes his path.
PHASE 2: Search & Compassion (The Path)
10. Questioning Caste
He stops people fighting over caste on temple steps and teaches - All humans are one, equality is divine.
11. Leaving Home
He leaves home with a small bundle for a spiritual pilgrimage, walking towards a new life at sunrise.
12. Intense Sadhana
He does intense tapas in quiet forests and ruined temples, sitting under trees in deep meditation for years.
13. Tiruvarutpa - Songs of Grace
By oil lamp in his hut, he composes thousands of divine verses called Tiruvarutpa (Tiru Arutpa), filled with love for God.
14. Jeeva Karunyam
He teaches Jeeva Karunyam - Compassion to all living beings. He feeds birds, cows, dogs, all animals gather around him lovingly.
15. Vow to Protect Life
Seeing animal cruelty in the market, he weeps and protects a calf, vowing to stop all killing - "No life should suffer".
16. Call of Arutperumjothi
In meditation, he receives the inner call of Arutperumjothi - the Supreme Grace Light, a golden light descending from the heavens.
17. Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga Sangam - 1865
He founds Samarasa Suddha Sanmarga Sangam - the path of pure truth and universal brotherhood. People of all castes sit together under a banyan tree.
18. Sathya Dharma Salai - Free Food
In 1867 at Vadalur, he establishes Sathya Dharma Salai - the Hall of True Charity, where a fire burns forever and free food is given to all hungry people daily. It still runs today.
19. Miracle - Lamp with Water
To prove divine grace, he lights an oil lamp using water instead of oil. The crowd is stunned - the lamp glows brightly at night.
PHASE 3: Enlightenment & Merging with Light
20. All Are One
He preaches against divisions of caste, creed and religion in Vadalur - people of different faiths listen together as one family.
21. Sathya Gnana Sabha - Temple of Light
In 1872, he builds Sathya Gnana Sabha at Vadalur - a unique lotus-shaped Temple of Wisdom with NO idol, only an ever-burning light as God.
22. The Seven Screens
He explains the seven screens of ignorance (colored cloths) that hide the inner truth-light. Remove them to see God within.
23. Transformation - Suddha Deham
Through deep tapas, his body transforms into Suddha Deham - the Pure Golden Body, glowing with golden aura. He conquers aging.
24. Simple Life
He wears only simple white clothes, lives in a small hut, gives away all possessions. Simplicity is his lifestyle.
25. Teaching the Inner Light
He initiates disciples into meditation on the inner light at the center between eyebrows - the point of Arutperumjothi.
26. The Deathless State
He attains the deathless state - beyond hunger, thirst, and aging, immersed in Arutperumjothi. Disciples watch in wonder.
27. Final Teaching
His final message to a huge crowd: "Compassion is the key to enlightenment. Serve all living beings as your own self. In kindness alone lies true enlightenment."
28. Last Seclusion - Siddhi Valakam
He enters his small thatched hut at Mettukuppam, called Siddhi Valakam, for final seclusion. Disciples wait outside on a moonlit night.
29. Merging with Light - Jan 30, 1874
On January 30, 1874, Vallalar dissolves into Infinite Light. His body vanishes as golden light in the hut, witnessed by disciples. He becomes Arutperumjothi.
30. The Eternal Legacy
His legacy lives on: Sathya Dharma Salai still feeds the poor, Sathya Gnana Sabha still shows the eternal Jothi flame, and his message of Love, Compassion and Light guides the world.
